Great photo! You can see how the World Trade Center towers were constructed and designed just by looking at the photo. It is amazing how much light actually shines straight through the building because of it's unique design.

This video shows more about the design and the construction of the original World Trade Center Towers 1 and 2.

They were not that well liked when they were built int he 70s. The public in fact was against them. It's like the outcry over 15 Penn Plaza now, although when they demolished the many blocks, there was nothing as important as the Hotel Penn in the way as far as I recall. Now that they are gone many do miss them. The videos do show the ingenious design behind them. It was very minimalistic and it managed to keep them upright for almost 30 years.

That video gives me the creeps knowing that some of the people in it eg the workers may have perished 7 days later.

Both were awe inspiring buildings. When you consider the history of skyscrapers in New York City, neither lasted very long - less than 30 years. Compare the Empire State Building, which recently celebrated its 80th Birthday last year, and which survived an impact by a large aircaft. Or The Trump Building, 40 Wall Street which is even older, which also survived an aircraft impact and which survives to this day.

It made Manhattan look lopsided, and it was not the favorite of many architecture lovers, but I think on balance we all do miss the WTC towers.

The sheer amount of building meant immense mass destruction when they came down.

That was a sad day for the city.
