The building is very nice, works well in its environment and looks great with Fuji in the background, but that's really only during winter.

I agree. The Mode Gakuen "COCOON" building is certainly one of the most interesting in Tokyo that I have seen. Superficially, it looks similar in cladding/effect to the Tokyo Sky Tree.

From a distance in the second photo it holds up very well. It is a unique building in the sense that it's shape gives it variable width and profile from every different angle, unlike most of the buildings that I have seen from photos of Tokyo.

The Mode Gakuen Cocoon tower is approximately 50 feet higher than the Saya at One Madison Avenue in New York, but a lot swarthier. One wonders why for such a spectacular building it's height was determined to be so low when it could easily have been a centerpiece for the buildings in that part of Tokyo. Instead, it is around the 15th tallest building (excluding structures like the Tokyo Sky Tree etc) however it does house a university/college and it the second tallest education building in the world after the one in Moscow. It is almost the same size (only one foot taller) as the "nearby" Shinjuku Nomura Building. 50 stories aboveground - and 3 underground give this building 53 stories.

Deceptively short for a building of this stature and design, but as you say, it hides a secret - that of being the world's second tallest university building.

It is an interesting skyscraper, this one.
