Why wasn't it named properly?

It should have just been called "FAUX MANHATTAN"

The underground station looks very impressive, but you are right: it does try too hard to be Manhattan.

And reading the stories here and elswhere - it is largely abandoned since the start of the financial crisis.

But Boris is in NY at the moment telling everyone just how great London is - I dont get it - how does he talk them into investing in London when they already know that after 2012 no one is going to really care what London does, as the public money spent on the Olympics will no longer be able to be used for the city? And what exactly does London have that would attract a NYer to Canary Wharf? The ultra high taxes to pay for the hoodies and the 2 million Englishmen who have never worked? I dont get it.

Its probaby the the first time Canary Wharf has been called "Faux Manhattan" but it was called "Miniature Manhattan" in this 2001 article

Defiance in London's miniature Manhattan

The skyline of Canary Wharf in London's Docklands, a shining symbol of Britain's position as a world centre of commerce, has become a miniature Manhattan in less than a decade.

The skyline of Canary Wharf in London's Docklands, a shining symbol of Britain's position as a world centre of commerce, has become a miniature Manhattan in less than a decade.

Nine gleaming new office buildings are under construction alongside the 13 already on the site and most are pre-let to companies keen to move to arguably the country's most prestigious business address.

Within the next five years, 50,000 people are expected to join the 41,000 who already work at Canary Wharf, with the development expected to treble in size by the time it is completed.

Forget calling Canary Wharf "Faux Manhattan", because you could now call it "Faux Rockefeller Plaza"

Yes, they opened a skating rink, and you can see just how exciting the people are skating in the shadow of the sub city without a soul.

It's no 5th Avenue...

I love the ice skating rink. It's a wonderful touch to such a bland windswept place.

But it's no Rockefeller Plaza. "Faux Manhattan" is too kind a term for Canary Wharf.
