Personally I believe the Metlife Building is the keystone in New York City's architecture, more than the Empire State Building.
Its a massive building, I still think one of the world's largest by area, it takes up a prominent position on Park, and its above Grand Central Terminal.
It has a lot of gravitas and I like it.
Great photos.
I love Chrysler, I like Bryant Park Hotel, I love Trump Tower, I like ESB, but as the Anchor of the City, This building is it.
I don't know how exactly to describe this building, except that I love it, clean, not bottom heavy, perched above the city, complex.
Its the keystone of Park Avenue, as others have said before, but its also the Anchor of the East Side of Manhattan, and almost feels like it makes Midtown "east heavy".
It is such a shame that the heliport was closed.
The photo of the guy perched on the edge of the building with Chrysler in the background is surely one of the best photos I've seen and demonstrates just how commanding this building is.
